An estimate using the thresholds above — not payroll or legal advice. Real agreements differ by union, local and country.

Your agreement is more specific than any calculator.

This tool uses thresholds you type in. Wrap Clock reads your actual agreement — IATSE, ACTRA, SAG-AFTRA, PACT/BECTU or your country's legal minimums — and computes your pay live as the day happens, with every figure showing the rule and source it came from.

How film overtime works

Straight time, then it climbs.

Most film and TV agreements pay in tiers across a shoot day. The exact hours and multipliers depend on your union and region, but the shape is almost always the same. For the full picture, read film crew overtime, explained.

Straight time

Your base rate for the first stretch of the day — commonly the first eight worked hours, before any overtime kicks in.

Time-and-a-half · 1.5×

Once you pass the straight-time threshold, each additional hour is paid at one-and-a-half times your rate — often from hour eight to twelve.

Double time · 2×

After a later threshold — frequently twelve worked hours — the rate doubles. Some agreements add golden time (triple) beyond that.

Meal penalties

If production works you past a meal deadline, you're owed a penalty — usually a set amount per interval the break is delayed.

Questions

Overtime, answered.

How is film crew overtime calculated?

Most agreements pay straight time up to a set number of worked hours (often 8), then time-and-a-half beyond that, then double time after a later threshold (often 12). Meal penalties are added when a meal break is pushed past its deadline. Exact thresholds and rates vary by union, local and country.

What is double time and golden time?

Double time (2×) is twice your base rate, usually after a set number of worked hours in a day. Golden time is an even higher multiple — commonly triple time — that some agreements pay after very long days or on certain days off.

What is a meal penalty?

A meal penalty is money owed when production works you past the deadline for a meal break. Many agreements charge a set amount per interval that the break is delayed. Amounts and rules are agreement-specific.

Is this the same as my union's exact pay?

No. This is a simplified estimate using thresholds you set. Your agreement — IATSE, ACTRA, SAG-AFTRA, PACT/BECTU or a statutory floor — has specific rules. Wrap Clock reads your actual agreement and computes it exactly, with every figure showing its source.
