How is angle of view calculated?

Angle of view = 2 × arctan(sensor dimension / (2 × focal length)). Use the sensor width for horizontal, the height for vertical, the diagonal for diagonal.

How wide does a lens see at a distance?

Frame width = 2 × distance × tan(horizontal AoV / 2). A 24mm on full frame at 3 m covers roughly 4.5 m across.

Why does sensor format change field of view?

A larger sensor sees a wider angle at the same focal length — that's what crop factor describes. A 50mm frames tighter on Super 35 or APS-C than on full frame. For framelines on set, DOPro does it live.
